The African lion ( Leo Panthera ) lives in prides consisting of two to twelve related females and their young, and dominant males. Males may form a coalition of two to six, and hold tenure over the prides until challenged. Large males may exceed 250kg ( 550 lbs) in weight and are the second-largest living cat after the tiger, Masai Mara, Kenya
