Namibia's Skeleton Coast
The Skeleton Coast is located in the northern part of the Atlantic Coast of Namibia stretching 500 km/300miles from the German town of Swapokmund to the Angolan border. It is virtually uninhabited and appears to be more of a mirage than real life giving one the feeling that they have arrived at the end of the earth. Here, lions stalk seals, elephants move quietly across towering 300 foot sand dunes. Its harsh environment is hostile and remote and thoroughly untamed. Animals bones, whale carcasses and hundreds of ship wrecks from centuries over lay upon the treacherous coastline that is almost always covered in a blanket of fog adding to the ghostly atmosphere. The northern portion of the Skeleton Coast is closed to tourism because of the extremely fragile ecosystem. The southern part is open however with a seaside road that extends up to the Skeleton Coast National Park gate.
