The Okavango Delta is a vast inland river delta in northern Botswana. It floods every year after the wet season and flows south and disappears into the parched Kalahari. It covers approximately 15,000 sq. kilometers/ 9,320 sq.miles of the Kalahari in northern Botswana and owes its existence to the Okavango (Kavango) River which flows south from the Angolan highlands across Namibia's Caprivi Strip. The Okavango Delta is both a permanent and seasonal home to a wide variety of wildlife. This oasis in known for its abundant and superb wildlife, with large populations of mammals thus making it a
popular location for African safaris. Botswana offers a plethora of wildlife and is known for excellent viewing of large elephant herds, big cats, African wild dogs and other animals. There are over 400 species of birds in the Delta which make it a birder's paradise.
